In this suspense-filled thriller, a resilient biracial teen deals with grief, anger, prejudice, fear, and his first serious romantic relationship as he tries to take care of his younger white siblings when their mother dies suddenly. As Michael struggles with the effects of his racial identity, he hopes his young siblings will be accepted because they are cute little white kids. Michael Dolan McCarthy was a quarter-finalist in the Amazon Breakout Novel Awards and the screenplay was a finalist in the Sacramento International Film Festival. While this novel will appeal to anyone ages 12 through adult, at-risk or troubled teens who dont like to read (reluctant readers) are the primary target audience.
